For most women, breast size is an important part of their
life and helps them feel desirable and normal. Choosing a
breast augmentation procedure will greatly improve most
women’s self esteem and can make her feel more like the
ideal woman by greatly improving the way she views
herself.
Cosmetic Breast Augmentation
Breast audmentation or enhancement is one of the most
commonly perdormed procedures in the United States
today. This procedure is used to enlarge small breasts,
underdeveloped breasts, or breasts that have decreased
in size because of having children. Breast augmentation
can dramatically improve the appearance of a woman’s
breasts.
Recent studies have supported saline implant safety. If your
saline implant should have a leak, the implant will deflate
while the salt water is safely reabsorbed into the the body.
If this were to happen, most companies that provide
implants provide a replacement warranty. Is Breast Augmentation Right
for You?
During your consultation, you will be discussing any
questions, concerns, goals and expectations you have with
the surgery.Your surgeon will assess the nature of your
breasts and your goals.Your surgeon will then explain the
probable outcome of the procedure.
During the consultation, your surgeon will show you several
before and after photographs of patients with breast
similar to yours.Your surgeon will explain the treatment
expectations. Also, you will have the opportunity to try
some different size implants in a bra to give you realistic
expectations of the size you desire. Before the procedure is
performed, a mammogram (X-Ray) will be required.
Is Breast Augmentation
Safe?
Breast augmentation and implants is safe. There is no
evidence proving that breast implants increase the risk of
breast cancer or any other health risk. In fact, most women
can safely breast feed after augmentation surgery.
Your Procedure
Breast augmentation usually takes about two hours to
perform and is performed on an outpatient basis with a
general or local anesthesia. One of the most frequent
techniques used today requires an incision under the lower
part of the breast. The incision is made either near the
chest wall or under the lower portion of the areola (darker
area under your nipple). After the incision, a pocket is
made under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall
muscle. The implant is positioned securely in the pocket
and small sutures are used to close the incision. When
inflatable implants are used, your surgeon will adjust the
amount of the inflation.
Your Recovery
Following the surgery should consist of a few days of rest.
Several weeks after the surgery, a post-surgical bra will be
worn. Most discomfort with the surgery can be controlled
with oral medication that is prescribed by your surgeon.
There is a possibility that antibiotics will also be prescribed.
Most women will experience bruising. swelling and some
tenderness. These experiences will subside within a short
time.Your surgeon will prescribe a proper schedule for
returning to your normal activities. However, physical
activity can resume in 4-6 weeks.
Following your breast ugmentation surgery, you will be
able to enjoy new, more pleasing shaped breasts that are
more comfortable and in better proportion with your physique.
